Last box for April 2017! As I mentioned before, I open 1 box a week so that I can give you full product reviews rather than first impressions and so Cohorted is the one box that falls into the first week of the next month. This works well, as this is the only subscription beauty box that is pre-order and so you wouldn’t be able to get your hands on it, you would have to wait for next month’s box.
Cohorted doesn’t really follow a monthly theme like the other three subscription beauty boxes (Birchbox, Glossybox, Look Fantastic) but sometimes you can sort of guess a theme from the editorial intro. From that it appears that April’s Cohorted Subscription Beauty Box went for a “looking effortlessly fresh faced” theme.
The box design was as always the standard black Cohorted box containing a small beauty magazine that tells you a little bit more about each product and some featured products or artists.
This month’s box contained 5 full size, high end products as usual. It is indeed very good value for money and very exciting to open! The value of the box this month was £102.00.
From left to right, the products were: an eye shadow palette, an eye mask, a lipstick, a makeup primer and a hair spray.
Lets dive in a little more deeply into how each product performed after a week’s use. Bear in mind that these are my personal opinions and as beauty is a very personal thing, we all have different skin, beauty requirements and biological build which can influence things. What worked for me might not work for you and vice versa. If you tried any of these please leave your comments below!
Laura Geller Creme Glaze Trio Eyeshadow Palette Sandy Lagoon
This eye shadow palette is a perfect travelling companion size. The packaging is very nice and I love that it has a mirror. The brush included is also much better quality than the normal applicators found in eye shadow palettes so it is useable if you forget to take your own. The all shimmer colours, blue, silver-brown and dark brown are very pigmented but some do have some fallout. That’s very common with shimmer shades though, so not much to worry about here. They are baked eye shadows that are supposed to give a foil-like effect and contain vitamin E. They do last all day and are very good quality however, unless you are feeling super bold it is not really possible to create a full look out of this palette. You could make a look out of one or two of the colours but not really all together and remember they are all shimmer colours! Did like this palette I just wish the three colours were more cohesive. This retails for £25.00. SCORE = 8/10
Elemis Pro-Collagen Hydra Gel Eye Masks
Was very excited to try this as ELEMIS is quite famous for their skin care and I wanted to try their masks for a while now. This mask is supposed to instantly reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It contains plankton extract, Padina Pavonica, Chlorella and Hyaluronic acid tightening and hydrating the skin.
I was a little confused when I opened this as you are supposed to apply the eye masks “sticky side on the skin”. I didn’t think that any of the sides were particularly sticky unless they mean the side were you have peeled off. They can be very slippery and it’s easy to loose which side you just peeled off. One side is smooth and the other has small ridges so I assumed smooth side goes on skin. Anyhow, the instructions were a little vague especially since there was no specified time of using this for. I did like however, that the masks are clear gel-type and not paper-type. They stick really well on the skin and don’t slip off even if you move your face or speak.
They are very comfortable to wear however, I can’t say that I noticed any differences at all. I don’t have wrinkles just yet so that might be it. I’d be very interested to know if someone had any instant (as they advertise) effects. This retails for £8.00 and the packaging is a standard rip-off to open, mask packaging while the actual masks sit inside a plastic dish full of liquid. SCORE = 6/10
Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Lip Colour Audrey
Everyone loves getting a full size lipstick and I am definitely not an exception. To summarise things, this is AMAZING.
I received the colour Audrey which I had a hard time defining what colour it actually is. Depending on the light it can appear more pink or more red. I’d say it is a nice blend between pink and red with a stronger pink tone. It leaves lips very smooth as it has olive oil and vitamin E. It doesn’t set into fine lines or dries out. It has a sheer shiny effect but very naturally looking, not like a gloss and it is not sticky at all. It does last a long time however, if I can fault one thing about it, it fades more than other lipsticks when eating. But it is a lip stick and so it is not expected to be perfect after eating. Simply re-apply if you feel that the colour faded too much. Additionally, as a true lipstick, it of course does come off through contact. The packaging is nice but a little too simple it doesn’t really shout out “expensive lipstick” but neither does it say “cheap”. There is a Laura Mercier writing on the top lid but it is only visible when light shines on it. The formula is amazing and I love the colour too. Definitely will try more colours out of this range. Highly recommended. This retails for £22.00 but it is totally worth it. SCORE = 10/10
Laura Geller Spackle Supercharged Fortified Under Makeup Primer Neutralizer
This is such a large tube of make-up primer which is going to last you for months (59mL)! I received the “Neutralizer” which has a salmon, light peachy colour so I immediately assumed that this would be an under eye colour corrector. Peachy-salmon colours are amazing at neutralizing purple-blue under eye circles. However, although the cream is quite pigmented it has a thin (for a concealer type) consistency so it didn’t really cover any under eye pigmentation.
The instructions say to apply on face and doesn’t specify the under eye area so I tried it as a normal make-up primer and it gave a brighter face look. It says that it colour corrects uneven skin tone and neutralizes imperfections so it does not mention that it is specifically for blue-purple colour correction. My make-up lasted all day and it is oil and paraben free so it works nicely if you are an oily type. It contains a cocktail of anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, amino acids and phospholipids, wine extract, resveratol, aloe, beet root, centella asiatica and white tea extracts. I will need to look into these ingredients further and figure out what the actual scientific evidence is!
This product retails for £25.00 and is aparently award-winning although they do not specify what and when. Can’t say that the tube looks pretty but it does the job, gives a brighter look and the amount you get is a lot! SCORE = 8/10
Percy & Reed Eau My Goodness Shine & Fragrance Hair Spray
This is a hair shine and fragrance product 2 in 1 and it is this months “discover” brand. This product has received several awards including: CEW Beauty awards 2015, Glammy 2015, Woman Hot 100 2015, Hair awards 2015, The Glamour Beauty Power List 2014 and Elle Beauty Awards 2012. This is indeed a nice product it gives hair a natural non-greasy shine and a subtle nice, but hair styling type, smell. The product doesn’t claim to soften hair but it did noticeably soften my thick hair!
The bottle (and the box in comes in) are absolutely amazingly gorgeous looking. This product retails for £22.00. SCORE = 9/10
Overall I loved the contents of this box, they were a nice range of different type of products and all full size. A little luxury treat to conclude April 2017 ! Gosh I hope there will be more of the Laura Mercier lipsticks in the months coming!
Initial box score, in terms of products and first feelings = 9/10
Overall box score after product testing (a sum of product scores) =8.2/10
Star product = Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Lip Colour Audrey
