Cohorted Beauty Box June 2017 – Unboxing and Product Reviews

Cohorted June 2017 came with a little drama. This month’s box contained only 4 products instead of the usual 5 or 6 and I was sent the wrong magazine, May instead of June. I did contact them asking them to send me the right one and in their defence they did immediately send me the June magazine, I received it within 3 days of contacting them. However, the fact that the box had only 4 products did feel a little incomplete. But let’s have a deeper look as to what was inside.

Cohorted doesn’t really follow a monthly theme like the other three subscription beauty boxes (Birchbox, Glossybox, Look Fantastic) but sometimes you can sort of guess a theme from the editorial intro. From that it appears that June’s Cohorted Subscription Beauty Box went for a “glowing and radiant summer perfection” theme.

The box design was as always the standard black Cohorted box that closes with a black ribbon bow and it also contained the usual small beauty magazine that tells you a little bit more about each product and some featured products or artists. It also came with a Mindful Chef 25% off coupon.

As I mentioned, this month’s box contained only 4 high end products of which not all were full size as usual! Real disappointment. Additionally, they costed the box to be worth £92.00 however, doing the quick math shows that, this price would only be true if the mascara was full size which is not. I would say the box is worth roughly £83.50. Still good value for money considering you only pay £35.

From left to right, the products were: a highlighter palette, a nail varnish, a mascara and a liquid lipstick.

Cohorted June 2017

Lets dive in a little more deeply into how each product performed after a week’s use. Bear in mind that these are my personal opinions and as beauty is a very personal thing, we all have different skin, beauty requirements and biological build which can influence things. What worked for me might not work for you and vice versa. If you tried any of these please leave your comments below!

Bellápierre Glowing Palette

I have to say I am in love with this palette and I’m not even huge on highlighters. This is a very beautiful palette with a very nice selection of colours to match whatever look you are going for. It came in its original outer packaging which is something that Cohorted (as opposed to a lot of other Beauty Boxes) does quite often.

The palette packaging itself is nice and sleek, made of cardboard but it does the trick. Inside it has a mirror which I personally love it just adds so much more functionality to the palette. The palette is also reusable if you wanted to as the round highlighter tins are held in by a magnet so you could easily take a colour you don’t like out or replace one when it’s are used up. It’s also light enough to travel with. The entire palette also closes magnetically (fairly strong) so there is no risk of it opening in your handbag.

The colours contained are: Moonshine, Stellar, Glimmer, Beam, Amorous and Gilt. All colours were lovely and suit a particular look. The only one that didn’t really perform as good as the others is Amorous. It needed a lot more swatching than the other colours did, so the colour pay-off is not as great as the others.

The highlighters are apparently made 100% from natural minerals and they contain Vitamin E. It doesn’t actually have many ingredients; the formula is very simple. This palette retails for £40 and surprisingly I would say it is actually worth the cash. It has a colour for each look occasion and the highlighters can be both natural looking and blinding depending on how many layers you pack on.

This palette won the Natural & Organic award Europe 2017 as the Best Cosmetic Product and was highly recommended by Natural Health International Beauty Awards 2017 and Cruelty-Free International. SCORE = 9/10

Kure Bazaar Nail Polish Colour Glam

Kure Bazaar Nail Polish Colour GlamLoved this nail varnish for a couple of reasons. Firstly the big square plastic cap comes off easily and the actual applicators has a smaller round cap so it is much easier to work with. Secondly, the brush is fairly slim which again makes it so much easier to work with. And lastly, the colour is amazing. It is almost a neon pink type of colour and is very summery.

In terms of performance, it is fairly standard. It dried as quickly as other nail varnishes and lasted also as along. It took 3 days before I started getting chips but I did use a top coat to protect it and I also didn’t do any “nail destroying activities” such as wash the dishes during that time. So I would say it lasts as long as standard nail varnishes, maybe an extra day longer if you treat it right.

Because the colour is so intense it’s better to use two coats of colour just to make it more solid and not streaky. The packaging is very simple but elegant. The bottle is made of glass and the caps are plastic. Overall, a very nice nail varnish and a lovely summer colour. It retails for £15 for 10mL which is slightly pricey but it is meant to be a luxury brand. You can tell that it’s not a drugstore nail varnish but I am not sure the benefits are worth paying so much more for it. That being said, if you can spare the cash go for it. It is a good nail varnish. SCORE = 9/10

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara Black

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara Black 3

Well the name really does put a high bar for this product. If it’s going to be better than sex then it better be a very good mascara. Right?

It arrived in its original outer packaging which is very nice of Cohorted. The actual mascara packaging itself is also very nice and sleek, tidy and elegant. It doesn’t have much writing on it and it has a metallic pink colour.

The actual mascara is black and it comes with a very thick, hour glass shaped wand. It smells like any other mascara and it truly does give you amazingly huge eye lashes. It lasts all day in terms of your eye lashes will be curled up but the length of the eyelashes tends to diminish with time. In the morning when I first applied this I had pretty much monster eye lashes but they were almost as long as my natural ones by midnight. However, all eye lashes were curled up still and bare in mind this was a 12 hour test! You could always re-apply if needed.

In the magazine it says “One coat and lashes are full, defined and stretched to unbelievable lengths. Two coats and they’re reaching unbelievable heights of drama. Three coats and you’ll believe in magic.” I’d say I agree with this. After three coats you do end up with pretty dramatic and long eye lashes. It is also smudge proof but not so much water proof.

It apparently contains collagen, peptides and a firm-forming polymer which excites me as a scientist. If it also contained something a little more “cosmeceutical” like vitamins etc and was fully waterproof, I would have given it a 10.

Cohorted counted this item as a full size product in their “how much is this Cohorted box worth” sum which is wrong. This is not a full size Too Faced Mascara but rather a travel size. It is only 4.8g. I’m ok with the travel size just not happy that they miscalculated their box value. This smaller mascara does not retail for £17 but the full size one does.

Is it better than sex? Guess you’ll have to try and see! SCORE = 9/10

Bellápierre Kiss Proof Lip Creme Antique Pink

Bellapierre Kiss Proof Lip Creme Antique Pink 2.jpgI do love that these boxes give you the opportunity to try and discover brands and products you wouldn’t pick up yourself. I don’t think I would ever pick up this liquid lipstick or the highlighter palette to be honest and I am pleasantly surprised with Bellápierre.

This liquid lipstick is very good. It is indeed kiss proof and it does last a very long time. It comes off when you eat or drink only on the inside of the lip where saliva and your tongue touch your lips the most but the rest of it is intact. If you apply another layer over it after you had food, it still works and dries fine and it doesn’t create a thick, dry surface or breaks into pieces like a lot of other liquid lipsticks do. It takes a few minutes to dry but not any longer than other liquid lipsticks and although it feels matt it doesn’t really dry out your lips.

Bellapierre Kiss Proof Lip Creme Antique Pink 4I am in love with the colour. It comes out a little darker than it looks in the packaging. Maybe it oxidises a little as it dries. The colour is called “Antique Pink” and I’d say that’s a spot on description. It is a dusty, darkish pink which can look like a brown in the dark.

It also came in its original outer packaging. The actual lipstick packaging is “heavy” for a liquid lipstick but it also contains quite a lot of it and will last a while. It has a very pleasant smell, a mixture of bubble gum and something fruity but it is very faint. It has a normal liquid lipstick wand and it is actually a lot more accurate to apply than I expected. If you don’t line your lips previously you can draw very straight lip lines with it. Screwing the wand back in the lipstick bottle can feel a little cheap as you can feel the plasticky friction on the cap but other than that, the overall packaging does not look or feel cheap.

I’ve read that some people said they found this very sticky. I would disagree with that. It is super sticky when you first apply it and if you pucker or press your upper and lower lip before it dries. But you are not supposed to do that with any liquid lipstick before it dries. After it dries it is not sticky at all. Perhaps some people might find that after drinking water from a glass you might feel that the very corners of the lips are a little sticky but nothing you wouldn’t experience with other liquid lipsticks as well. When it dries it is not sticky.

This liquid lipstick retails for £20. Personally, I think £15 pounds would have been a better price for it especially since it doesn’t have any extra features such as vitamins or nourishing ingredients but it is, in terms of formula, a very good liquid lipstick and the colour is lovely and not very common either. I would perhaps pay for it because I loved the colour so much, but I do feel it is a little pricey for what it is.

This liquid lipstick won the Natural & Organic award Europe 2017 as the Best Cosmetic Product and was highly recommended by Natural Health International Beauty Awards 2017 and Cruelty-Free International. This is exactly the same as the palette so I wonder if it is the company that won these awards and not the individual products? SCORE = 9/10

Overall I absolutely loved the contents of this box but I was a little disappointed that it was only 4 items instead of 5. These 4 items were amazing but it did feel like there was something missing. It would have probably been a 10/10 for the box if there was one more item.

Initial box score, in terms of products and first feelings = 9/10

Overall box score after product testing (a sum of product scores) =9/10

Star product = All products amazingly scored 9 so I will go with the one I reached out for the most which is the Bellápierre Glowing Palette.

    • I’m sure the next box will be great if there is one thing that Cohorted does well is pick good products. So the products themselves are always great just sad it was 4 instead of 5 this month. Out of all boxes I get Cohorted is definetely still the best on quality and value.
