The Look Fantastic box is still the first box to arrive every month, always way ahead any other subscription boxes and it is a huge perk. I received the box on the 3rd of the month, I mean I still haven’t realised it is November yet! They are on point, they probably dispatch the boxes before the month even starts. I have to say their organisation in this matter definitely shows, month after month.
The last two Look Fantastic months were gorgeous boxes with really nice products so I guess it was bound to happen. This month the box was still gorgeous but the products were a little…disappointing.
Look Fantastic November has a “Ready, Set, Glam” theme and I love it. We are one month away from Christmas and while I don’t like the premature, pre-Christmas hype (my motto is: let’s talk about Christmas in December), I do think that this theme suits the month and works nicely as preparation for the winter festivities.
The quote inside the box said “Life is a party, glam up for the occasion”. It fits the theme and as always, I love and agree with these little quotes. Life is too short, let’s have fun and glam up!
The products inside were a bit of a miss match for me. Some fit the theme and some were general products that would fit anywhere. However, without further ado, let’s get into it!
This month the box contained 6 products and the two monthly magazines that always accompany this box, a small Beauty magazine and a travel size, full version of ELLE magazine. Good value for money as always.
From left to right, the products were: a liquid lipstick, a liquid highlighter, a daily moisturiser, a pillow scent, an eye shadow and an anti-wrinkle cream.
Let’s dive in a little more deeply into how each product performed after a week’s use. Bear in mind that these are my personal opinions and as beauty is a very personal thing, we all have different skin, beauty requirements and biological build which can influence things. What worked for me might not work for you and vice versa. If you tried any of these please leave your comments below!
BelláPierre Cosmetics Kiss Proof Lip Crème Colour VLC008 80s Red
I wrote about a BelláPierre lip crème in the Cohorted June box. Back then I loved the colour and formula and I have to say I still feel the same today. The colour I received then was Antique Pink, a soft but dirty looking pink whereas this time it is a nice wine red.
My favourite lipstick colour, if I could only pick one, is a nice deep, wine red so I am so, so in love with this one. The colour is absolutely gorgeous and really nice to wear during winter too.
This liquid lipstick is very good. It is definitely kiss proof, in fact I had a hard time taking it off with a makeup wipe, you might need something a little stronger. It last a very long time. It comes off when you eat or drink but only on the inside of the lip where saliva and your tongue touch your lips the most. This is typical of liquid lipsticks, or any lipstick for that matter.
It works well with layering, you can apply another layer over the old one after you had food etc. It takes a few minutes to dry but not any longer than other liquid lipsticks and although it feels matt it doesn’t really dry out your lips.
I’ve read before that some people said that these liquid lipsticks are very sticky. I had none of that whatsoever. Like any liquid lipstick, you have to wait (with you lips apart) for a few minutes before puckering them together. That is typical behaviour and procedure for a liquid lipstick, if you touch your lips before that and it is sticky because it hasn’t dried…well it’s your fault really.
I still think that the £20 price is a little high, I personally think £15 would be more appropriate but they are very good quality liquid lipsticks and the colours are gorgeous. SCORE = 9/10
Pixi by Petra Glow Booster
A lot of beauty boxes have been included Pixi by Petra products recently and I am glad. They are good quality products and this one wasn’t an exception.
This product is labelled as a “glow booster” and at first it sounds like a brightening or highlighting primer. However, after putting it on my skin and playing around with it, I think you could also use it as a natural highlighter. Essentially, it is a very versatile product that actually works and I love it. A lot of the times, products that are meant to do a couple of things, tend to do one better than others or fail at the other functions completely. This one can work as an illuminating primer and a highlighter nicely. It dries completely so you don’t have to worry about it transferring.
It smells like a cosmetic cream, very feminine and pleasant. I even like how simple the Pixi branding is and I don’t even mind the cheap plastic tube it is in. All and all, a nice product that you can use in more than one way. If you want to use it as a highlighter, bear in mind, it is very naturally looking, it won’t blind anyone but that is ok because it would otherwise be too much to use it as a primer!
Can even use to naturally highlight your brow bone…SCORE = 9/10
Murad Essential-C Day Moisture Broad Spectrum
This is a day moisturiser that will protect you from UVA and B to prevent sun and free radical damage. You can use it on the face, neck and chest.
It is a relatively thick, white cream that smells mostly of orange but not just. It feels very hydrating on the skin and it gets absorbed quickly. There is a slight oily residue left behind but nothing too major.
It contains some interesting protective and nourishing ingredients, it is not your standard predictable and boring formulation. It is a good cream and I might even do a deep ingredient analysis on it on another time. If you want to see that let me know!
The plastic tube is obviously a sample so I guess there isn’t much point in criticising it. It’s of course a standard quality tube that is not exactly beautiful looking. The branding is very basic but I guess that gives this cream the feeling that it is serious, it’s not just a “put it on your face to be pretty” cream, it will actually provide you with some environmental protection. It even has SPF30 which is great.
It’s not the worse for oily skin either and it actually feels quite hydrating if you have dry skin. SCORE = 8/10
This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray
I’ve seen this product be advertised pretty much everywhere so I was naturally intrigued. You are supposed to spray this on your pillow before you go to bed and it is meant to calm you and help you not only fall asleep but also have better quality sleep.
It definitely smells very calming, a bit like lavender products but not just. I think that this is one of those love or hate products. Not because of the actual product but because of the concept.
Some people, including me most of the time, might find it very annoying to have a strong smell in the bedroom. So annoying that it might keep you awake. Others, me sometimes, might actually find it calming and soothing. For me, it depends on the mood but primarily my “no strong smells” in the bedroom mood wins. So unfortunately, I don’t think I will be using this a lot. Anything that can keep my brain occupied, even if it’s a smell, keeps me awake.
If you don’t find strong scents annoying during bed time then give this product a go. It can be soothing and calming and might even help you sleep better. SCORE = 6/10
Teez Cosmetics Spectrum of Stars Eyeshadows Colour Sea Flare
This is a different looking, individual eye shadow. I have to admit, I am not an individual eye shadow fan. Simply because I never use them. If I am doing an eye shadow look, I am reaching for palettes. I might mix a few palettes but it is still palettes. I almost never reach for those individual shadows unless they are super special and let’s face it, palettes are nowadays special too.
It is a gorgeous green shimmer colour that feels more creamy than buttery, applies easily and lasts long. It doesn’t crease (but I always use an eye shadow primer) and it blends easily. It smells like a typical eye shadow product. Although the product packaging might look very interesting and cute, I think that actually the most special thing about this product is the fact that it is an eye shadow with added argan oil.
I am a big fan of cosmeceuticals (see post “What are cosmeceuticals”) and I love it when products have an added value. Why not? Why just use a normal eye shadow? Why not have the extra benefits? I love this about this eye shadow so much so that I might even look through my single eye shadow draw next time I am creating a look…and I might even use green, a colour I rarely use!
Personally, I don’t really like the packaging because it reminds me more of lip balms than eye shadow but I don’t hate it either. I do love the formula though and even the colour is gorgeous. SCORE = 9/10
Filorga Time Filler Eye Cream
This is an anti-ageing, anti-wrinkle eye cream for all ages. Remember, prevention is key! Once you get the wrinkles you can’t really erase them!
It feels nice on the skin, gets absorbed quickly and smells like a cosmetic cream. It gives a hydrated feeling and feels expensive. I can’t say that it gave me any amazing or miracle mistakes like the Look Fantastic Magazine seems to be hinting at but bear in mind that skin care is a slow process and you have to stick with a product for a couple of weeks to months sometimes to see a result.
I will keep using it, if nothing else it feels nice. Not sure if I would purchase it thought without seeing some effect first but that is a dilemma that is present with any skin care product.
The tube is clearly a sample, it even says so at the back. I am not expecting to find full size products in beauty boxes like Look Fantastic (that’s Cohorted’s job) but let’s be honest, I am not expecting free samples that I could obtain otherwise either. Disappointing but nevertheless glad to have tried this product. SCORE = 7/10
Overall, I thought the box design and theme were nice but the products contained were a little bit of a let down. Not so much because of what the products actually are or how they behaved, but more because of the product sizes. They were all small, sample size things with the exception of the full size lipstick and single eye shadow.
Initial box score, in terms of products and first feelings = 7/10
Overall box score after product testing (a sum of product scores) = 8/10
Star product = Teez Cosmetics Spectrum of Stars Eyeshadows Colour Sea Flare and BelláPierre Cosmetics Kiss Proof Lip Crème Colour VLC008 80s Red. I love the shadow because of the quality and cosmeceutical function but I also absolutely adore that red colour and longevity of that liquid lipstick. Loved them both equally.
