Well, it looks like my Look Fantastic January “complaint” was just situational, as the Look Fantastic box has continued to arrive first, before any other beauty boxes, during February and March. This was the case for the majority of 2017 as well, and it’s nice to see that they are keeping it up!
This month’s box was absolutely gorgeous. It had an artistic beauty look to it, gorgeous colour combinations and as always was high quality. The Look Fantastic boxes are always so gorgeous and reusable.
This month’s theme was “Beauty Empowered”, I’m guessing referring to March 8, the international women’s day. I love the theme and it also matches the box design. Even the quote underneath the lid “I am fantastic, you are fantastic, we are fantastic” matches and it even promotes Look Fantastic. How much more perfect can it be?!
I don’t know what kind of products I would match with a “Beauty Empowered” theme, as pretty much anything would fit. Any beauty product that makes you feel prettier, better, more groomed, more confident, more feminine etc would match this theme, so this box couldn’t really disappoint.
As always, the Look Fantastic box also came with a small monthly Beauty Magazine that has a little more information about the products contained and some other featured products and of course, a travel size but full edition of the ELLE magazine. Value for money, as always!
The box contained 6 products this month. From left to right, the products were: a day moisturiser, an anti-ageing mask, a lip plumper, a foot mask, two eyeshadows and a face brush.
Let’s dive in a little more deeply into how each product performed after a week’s use. Bear in mind that these are my personal opinions and that beauty is a very personal thing, we all have different skin, beauty requirements and biological build which can influence things. What worked for me might not work for you and vice versa. If you tried any of these please leave your comments below!
Omorovicza Balancing Moisturiser
I absolutely love the packaging of this moisturiser. There is something about a moisturiser in a glass bottle with a pump that just makes it look and feel so fancy! Especially with the minimal branding and white and silver colour scheme of the Omorovicza brand. It looks gorgeous and it makes me want to use it.
The moisturiser itself is pretty good too. It kept my oily skin moisturised but at the same time I didn’t look or feel oily. Throughout the day my skin produced only a small amount of oil, this moisturiser actually kept me pretty matte.
It contains Ruby Crystals which can help diffuse light and minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. I didn’t notice any brightening of my skin but my pores where slightly, only slightly, blurred.
It gets absorbed really quickly by the skin and it doesn’t leave any residues behind. It has a strong natural meets flowers and lemon type of scent. It’s an awakening scent and has a bit of a natural off scent. It’s not bad but it’s neither the typical cosmetic and feminine type of moisturiser smell. It lasts 9M which is no problem if you use it daily.
It is suitable for oily, combination and normal skin and is free from synthetic fragrance, colours and parabens. It has some interesting, good for your skin ingredients which is very telling by the price. This 30mL bottle retails for a whopping £51. I’d have to use it for longer to let you know if it’s worth the cash, perhaps in an in-depth review and ingredient analysis post. SCORE = 9/10
Renu Advanced Anti-Ageing Flash Relax Mask
I really wasn’t expecting much of this mask, maybe because it looks a little cheap. The tube is made of standard plastic and the branding and design is very simple. However, don’t just this mask too soon as it actually works really well.
It looks like a clear gel which I actually really liked. It spreads really easily on the skin and it almost gets fully absorbed. You are meant to spread it evenly throughout the face, while avoiding the eye and lip areas, leave for 5-10 minutes and then rinse with warm water. There really wasn’t much left to rinse out after the time had passed, my skin really loved it.
I have to admit my skin felt thicker and deeply moisturised even throughout the entire next day. It is meant to give an instant face lift by smoothing fine lines and firming facial contours. I don’t have any ageing lines just yet even though I’m in my thirties (invest in good skincare…I’m telling you!) so I can’t really comment on that but my skin’s texture and thickness changed to the better.
This product is paraben free and not suitable for very sensitive skin. The brand is against animal testing and considerate to the environment. The product contains some interesting ingredients but overall, I wouldn’t have thought they are as impressive as the results. This is likely an example where quantity of each ingredient in a formulation can make or break a product.
It says at the back of the product that you might experience some tingling. I didn’t experience any of that, in fact the gel felt cooling and nicely soothing on my face. It has a very subtle smell of almost nothing. It lasts 12M but I’m sure you’d use it faster than that!
This tube of 30mL would retail for about £10.49 which is an affordable price for a good face mask.
Even though this is meant for mature skin, I think anyone who wants to thicken and deeply moisturise their skin would benefit. It really worked for me and I’m looking forward to using it again! SCORE = 9/10
SkinChemists Rose Quarts Lip Plump
This product on the other hand, did give me a tingling/burning sensation on my lips.
This is a lip plump that is meant to give your lips that little extra plumpness and glow. It is meant to stimulate, restructure and glow your lips. It can be used on its own or under a lipstick.
It has a really beautiful, pale glittery pink colour that looks natural on the lips and a strong mint type of scent. It feels like you’ve just brushed your teeth, the mint smell and fresh feeling on the lips almost feels like you’ve just brushed your teeth.
Although the packaging is very simple and even the wand is of standard quality, it looks great and it gives that feminine, grooming type of feeling when you use it.
It contains peppermint oil that is meant to make the lips look plumper and smoother but I must admit I didn’t think that it worked for me. My lips were smoother and nicely moisturised but they were definitely not plumper. However, bear in mind that to this day, I have not found a product that actually makes my lips look more plump so perhaps this sort of thing just doesn’t work for me.
The ingredient list is short and it doesn’t appear as a very complicated product. It is free from parabens and it lasts 12M. Considering the bacteria contamination every time you use this on your lips, you probably shouldn’t be using it for that long anyways.
This 8mL tube retails for a whopping £94.90 on the brand’s website or £44.99 on Look Fantastic’s online shop. Either way it is incredibly expensive in my opinion. It gives me nicely moisturised and fresh lips, but that effect is not really worth that cash. Perhaps if it works for you and you get plump lips…but still, if you are nearing the hundreds mark, perhaps you should start considering lip fillers! SCORE = 7/10
Skimono Foot Mask Total Conditioning+
I love foot masks. Our feet go through so much every day and yet all we give them is an occasional pedicure every now and again.
This Skimono mask worked really well, my feet definitely felt conditioned, soft and moisturised. All you are meant to do is wash your feet, strap them into the foot mask socks and wait 20-30 minutes. You don’t even need to rinse afterwards!
It’s like a little spa in your house and it’s the perfect activity for a Sunday night to give your feet some love before next week. I absolutely loved this, I should really do this more often!
There are some good ingredients in there and your feet will thank you. This is a one off use foot mask and it contains 2 socks, one for each foot.
It is meant to moisturise, smooth cracked heels, soften hard skin, refresh and revive tired feet and even has an anti-bacterial action. I don’t have cracked heels or hard skin so I can’t comment on that but my feet definitely felt deeply moisturised and revitalised. Happy feet!
One satchel retails for £9.99, or less if you buy a pack with a few inside. SCORE = 9/10
Doucce Freematic Eye Shadow Duo Colours 78 Kate and 81 Tenley
These tiny little eye shadows might not look like much but if you have a Doucce Freematic palette they can be a blessing in disguise. The Freematic palettes are highly customisable, you can place in them any colours you like, so these two cuties are very useful.
The shadows really nice colours, acceptably pigmented and of good quality. I wouldn’t say they are better than let’s say Urban Decay shadows, they are not as creamy, but they are pretty good and very usable. They blended easily and lasted all day. There was no creasing, colour fading or patchiness at all but bear in mind I always wear an eye primer underneath.
They have a simple formulation, contain vitamin E and like many shadows they last for 12M. Even though they are single shadows, and I really hate single eye shadows, I am really happy to have received them as I can customise my Doucce Freematic palette further.
If you don’t have a Doucce Freematic though you can still use them as singles. SCORE = 7/10
SYLONDON Oval Face Brush
I used to be in love with oval brushes as they are so easy to use and they work pretty well. I have quite a few oval brushes of this size too but I guess the more the merrier. Right?
This brush is soft, works really well and washes out nicely.
The handle is made of plastic but it is sturdy enough for its designed use. If you snap one of this you are probably using too much force on your face!
I think that brushes should not come with a “what this is used for” label as we all have different size and shape faces and characteristics and we also like to do things differently using different techniques. I would use this brush for contouring but really the sky is the limit. SCORE = 9/10
Overall, I thought that this month’s box was gorgeous and the theme was even better. I loved the products contained even though they didn’t all work for me. It was a lovely Look Fantastic box that has introduced me to some products that I will be using for a while.
Initial box score, in terms of products and first feelings = 9/10
Overall box score after product testing (a sum of product scores) = 8.3/10
Star product = Omorovicza Balancing Moisturiser
