Beauty Product Discovery – Glossybox April 2018 Beauty Box – Unboxing and Product Reviews

This month’s Glossybox was dedicated to nostalgia, bringing a fresh twist to old classics. The theme is great and it definitely fit the products contained, so one more job well done by Glossybox!

Glossybox April 2018 came in its usual pink box which I personally think it’s very iconic. Despite the fact that it is a very simple looking box it is never a disappointment. It is simple, elegant and highly reusable! Not just for gifting or simple storage, you can cut and glue a few boxes together and make a nice beauty case. For more info see my beauty storage board on my Pinterest.

This month’s box contained 5 products as always, of which all were full size! The products were, as seen in the picture, from left to right: a body wash, a setting powder, a blush/highlighter, an eyeliner and a brush.

Let’s have a look at the products in more detail. Bear in mind that these are my personal opinions and as beauty is a very personal thing, we all have different skin, requirements and biological build which can influence things. What worked for me might not work for you and vice versa, please leave your comments below!

Imperial Leather Foamburst Luxurious Body Wash in Unicorn Marsh Mallow

I mean…this must be a dream come true. A body wash with a unicorn marsh mallow scent? What more could you be missing from your life!

As funny as it might sound and without an inch of embarrassment, I thought that this body wash is brilliant. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!

It looks gorgeous, it smells gorgeous and even though I don’t know what unicorns would smell like (there’s an interesting thought), it’s a smell that could fit. It’s cosmetic, sweet and feminine and just pure lush! I love the craziness of it all and I am looking forward to bathing in my unicorn foam! It’s the little things in life sometimes that pick you up or make you smile…

And in case you were wondering, the shower foam works well too. It cleans nicely, doesn’t leave any unwanted skin feeling behind and it feels soft on the skin.

It is limited edition so hurry and get your hands on one! It should last you for around 40 showers of pure unicorn power for only £3.15. You can’t even buy a unicorn for that.

It says at the back of the product that this bottle will make you feel like you are at the top of the rainbow and I couldn’t agree more. I’ve completely lost it in this review and I love it. Unicorn vibes! SCORE = 10/10

Affect Cosmetics Matt Effect Transparent Loose Rice Powder

This is a translucent powder that you can use to set your makeup or even to mattify your skin, if you are an oily type or you want to turn a dewy foundation into a more matte effect.

20180414_102049

It is pure white in colour which is great. There are way too many translucent setting powders out there that have a slight pinky colour and even though they are meant to be translucent, they do add colour to your face and can change the shade of your foundation/contour/concealer etc. A pure white powder works best, although make sure to not use too much of it otherwise you will be adding…lot’s of white to your face! At least, white is easier to control and correct than pink.

The packaging is very simple and made of plastic. It has minimal branding, literally just the company’s name on the top lid and unfortunately, to me, it looks and feels a little cheap. It does the job and it works but the packaging is a real let down. It makes the product look and feel a little boring. Makeup is all about getting excited to use it up and I’m afraid I will probably forget about this one at the back of a drawer.

It is a full size item that costs £9.35. SCORE = 7/10

Karl Lagerfeld + ModelCo Baked Blush in Rose Beige

This is meant to be a blush but to me it is both a blush and a highlighter.

The packaging is very simple and made of plastic but it actually has a nice presence. There is a lady figure wearing a pony tail at the top lid which really makes it unique looking and gives it some character. Overall though, the packaging feels light and cheap.

The product works well as a highlighter, it gives a nice soft and natural glow (you won’t be blinding planes with this one) but it also adds a fair bit of colour, which personally I don’t like in a highlighter.

You might then think that it would work better as a blush, to add that needed rose cheek colour but then, it might be just me, I don’t want my cheeks to be shiny. It’s one of those products that can be used for more than one application but doesn’t do either of them perfect. This might just be my opinion though, I know that there are many ladies out there that love a shiny blush or a pink highlighter.

This product works but it’s just not for me. SCORE = 7/10

Eyeko London Fat Liquid Eyeliner in Black

I consider myself a bit of an eyeliner expert because no matter what makeup I do, I never leave the house without an eyeliner. I’ve tried so many of them and unfortunately, even though the beauty market it saturated with them, only a few of them are actually good.

20180414_102200

I was excited to try this one out but I must admit I don’t get the big or fat, as the brand called it, shape. To me the eyeliner needs to be as thin as possible so that I can create really delicate lines that I can then make thicker if I want to. This eyeliner doesn’t really give you that option, it’s thick lines all the way no matter what. As a result, if you have small eyes this might not be an item for you but if you like thick and big wings then you might love this eyeliner.

20180414_102310

It works well, it is a proper black colour and it dries quickly. It doesn’t smudge too much (a tiny bit) and it is not waterproof.

I personally think that brush eyeliners are superior to pen ones as they last longer, write more cohesively and don’t have the upside down, ink going back problem, but this is a personal preference type of thing. If you love pen eyeliners and thick bold lines, try this one out.

This is a full size eyeliner which retails for £16. SCORE = 8/10

Glossybox Angled Brush

I love this brush. I love that it is baby pink. I love that it has the Glossybox shade and logo and I love that it is an angled brush.

20180414_101935

I am a firm believer that brushes can be used for whatever the user feels better using them for, not what they are labelled for. I personally find this type of brush incredibly helpful for doing under eye lines or under eye shadow shading.

It is soft, washes well and it looks great. It’s a lovely addition to anyone’s brush collection, even if you have an angled brush already, you always need a couple of the same type! I really like that Glossybox made it a little personal and added a Glossybox branded item and I hope they do it again soon.

This full size brush is worth £5.50. SCORE =10/10

Overall, this month’s Glossybox was great, it rarely disappoints. I absolutely loved the unicorn shower foam, it reminded me of the Unicorn theme that Glossybox did in October 2017. Gosh I wish they do that theme again, that was one of the all time best Glossyboxes/beauty boxes ever! The rest of the products were also nice but a little on the basic but still must haves category. You can’t go wrong with that, that was what the theme was about and everyone needs an eyeliner, blush/highlighter, a brush and a setting powder!

Initial box score, in terms of products and first feelings = 8/10

Overall box score after product testing (a sum of product scores) = 8.4/10

Star product = Imperial Leather Foamburst Luxurious Body Wash in Unicorn Marsh Mallow
