This month’s Look Fantastic box may not have had as amazing of a design as last month’s but the green shaded box really suited the strong and fresh lemon scent of it. Upon opening the box I was overwhelmed with a gorgeous scent from one of the products contained, the Dr Botanicals exfoliating bar. This really made the think that actually a scented box really elevates the unboxing experience. Even though I didn’t think that the products contained were the most amazing this month, out of all beauty boxes, or the box was the most beautiful, this month’s Look Fantastic box is the one that stayed in my mind the longest and made me super excited to write about it. The scent matching the box design REALLY WORKS!
Look Fantastic went for an “Awakening” theme this month and although I am not sure what type of products I would associate with that, the strong fresh lemon scent definitely suits it.
This month’s Look Fantastic quote was “Petrichor [PET-ri-kuhr] The pleasant, earthy smell after rain”. I love that scent and in case you don’t know, it is the smell of trapped ozone in the soil. However, that scent had nothing to do with the lemon scent that the exfoliating bar gave this box. Nevertheless, the ozone scent is also an awakening type of smell which would also suit the green color of this box.
As always, the Look Fantastic box also came with a small monthly Beauty Magazine that has a little more information about the products contained and some other featured products and of course, a travel size but full edition of the ELLE magazine. Amazing value for money.
The box contained 6 products this month. From left to right, the products were: an exfoliating bar, a cleansing balm, a mascara, cleansing pads, a day cream and a clearing mask.
Let’s dive in a little more deeply into how each product performed after a week’s use. Bear in mind that these are my personal opinions and that beauty is a very personal thing, we all have different skin, beauty requirements and biological build which can influence things. What worked for me might not work for you and vice versa. If you tried any of these please leave your comments below!
Dr Botanicals Vegan Bergamont & Poppy Seed Soap
In case you are not convinced yet, this exfoliating bar smells amazing. It has a strong fresh lemon scent but it is very pleasant. It looks quite nice with the black poppy seed dots in it and it feels nice on the skin. Although on first glance I thought that the poppy seeds were there for the “fancy effect”, they actually work pretty well as natural exfoliating beads.
The packaging is very simple and typical of the Dr Botanicals range. Even though I wouldn’t use a bar for exfoliating I must say this one got me. It works really well and leaves the skin nice and soft. It is not hard and it is easy to use. The only drawback really is that soap bar type of products might not be as sanitary as others and you will need a place to store it after the first use as putting it wet back into the cardboard box might not work very well.
Dr Botanicals states that this product is best for normal skin however, it worked fine on my dry legs. You an use it on your face too, not just the body. It cleanses, hydrates, exfoliates, moisturizes and it even contains anti-oxidants. Did I mention the smell is gorgeous too?
This exfoliating soap is vegan and it retails for £19.90 which is definitely an expensive price tag for exfoliation but it is a guilty pleasure for me. Sometimes, even though there might be cheaper options, it is a specific product that motivates you or makes you want to use it and for that I’d pay the price tag. This product makes me want to use it and remember to exfoliate often! SCORE = 10/10
Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm
This cleansing balm is a yellow solid that turns into a liquid in hot temperatures and so you might want to keep it somewhere cool in the summer!
You are meant to take a small amount, rub it between your hands to melt it and then place it on your face to remove makeup. You will still need another product afterwards, to help get everything off but this type of product is an amazing helper when you have a heavy full face of makeup on. You can also use a warm cloth with water after using this product if you don’t want to combine it with another cleanser.
Apparently you can use this balm also overnight as a facial treatment on spots and breakouts. It has a nice floral but subtle scent and it removes makeup well.
The packaging, although simple, it looks nice and elegant and it also looks fancy and expensive. It also has some interesting ingredients! SCORE = 9/10
Pür Fully Charged Mascara
This mascara is meant to be “fully charged, powered by magnetic technology”. This means nothing to me as a chemist so if you are confused, I’m with you.
This mascara is meant to contain a charged polymer that is meant to keep your lashes up and apart. If I’m honest though, I would have never guessed that from using it as it didn’t seem to be a particularly different mascara or give impressive results.
Nevertheless, this mascara was ok. It wasn’t bad, it added some thickness to the lashes but the length was nowhere to be found. It didn’t last all day long and throughout the day my lashes were falling lower and lower but at least it doesn’t smudge.
The wand though is nice and thick and it works well. This mascara has a very slight smell. It lasts for 6M and like with any mascaras you really shouldn’t use it for longer than 3 or so.
For more info on how long to use makeup check out: “Should we be using expired make up? What are the guidelines for the correct use of cosmetics?”
I can’t say that it was a bad mascara but I can’t say that I will remember it in a week’s time. It was just ok. SCORE = 7/10
Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Daily Cleansing Pads
I really loved these pads, they are so easy to use and they clean well. I wouldn’t use them on a full face of makeup but rather after waking up or as the last cleansing step after removing makeup etc.
They contain glycoxylic acid which can exfoliate but they can also hydrate and offer anti-ageing benefits due to the hyaluronic acid. They also contain Blue Daisy which can sooth, smooth and brighten the skin.
They look like standard soaked, cleaning pads but they also have soft, small ridges that help clean and exfoliate further. They remove even dirt that you cannot see and leave the skin feeling great.
This little pack contains only 10 pads but it was enough to get me hooked. They even have a gorgeous lemon-like fresh scent. Love them! What more can you want from cleansing pads? SCORE = 10/10
Nuxe Crème Fraîche de Beautè
Well this Crème Fraîche name really reminded me of food! This moisturizer cream can be used both day and night and is better for normal skin. It didn’t really help control my oily skin but it didn’t make my oils worse either.
It feels very smooth and moisturizing on the skin and it has a texture somewhere between a butter and a hand cream. Not too thick or too thin, just perfect. It also has a subtle floral scent that is pleasant.
The tube packaging is definitely not going to be the most good looking item in your beauty bag but it is simple and it works. It has some interesting ingredients and it lasts 12M. It contains vegetable milk and algae extracts all which can have great impact on the skin.
If it worked a little better for oily skin I’d use it but unfortunately, this wasn’t for me. SCORE = 8/10
Glamglow Supermud Clearing Treatment
This is a mask that is meant to help with blemishes, unclog pores and clear the skin. It is recommended for normal to combination skin which made me think a little. Those who have the biggest problem with pores and usually the oily types but anyhow, we all have pores! It is only recommended for the T-zone if you have sensitive skin.
You are meant to apply a thin layer of this on clean skin, leave it for 20 minutes and then rinse with water. You can also use it as a spot treatment too.
I love the Glamglow masks in general, if you haven’t tried them already you definitely should. They have different colors and they obviously do different things. This is obviously the white one and it works very well. It leaves the skin nicely cleansed and soft but at the same time not dry.
This mask has a strong mint meets liquorice type scent but it works for a cleanser.
I also love how simple but yet elegant the Glamglow mask packaging works, and the tube quality is high. SCORE = 9/10
Overall, I really loved this month’s Look Fantastic box, it will definitely stay in my mind for a long time and it is all because of the strong scent of the Dr Botanicals exfoliating soap. All products contained were of very good quality and there weren’t any let downs.
Initial box score, in terms of products and first feelings = 9/10
Overall box score after product testing (a sum of product scores) = 8.8/10
Star product = Dr Botanicals Vegan Bergamont & Poppy Seed Soap and Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Daily Cleansing Pads
