There are many ways to take off your makeup or quickly clean your face and everyone has their favourites. However, no matter how you choose to do that, a pack of wipes is definitely a preparation must. Whether it is for the quick and convenient wipe off or for correcting mistakes while you are trying to master your eye liner, makeup wipes are incredibly useful, quick and practical. They are also great companions when travelling.
Misfits Cosmetics was very kind to send me their Wake Up Wipes to try out and tell you more about and I am very excited!
Misfits Cosmetics is a brand that is looking to bring a fresh and innovative take on cosmetic products, allowing the users to ‘filter’ themselves without the need for Photoshop or online tweakers. They have a focus on environmentally-friendly products and aim to boost the users’ confidence, the same way an Instagram filter works.
I love what the brand is trying to do, we all want to look our best, but also natural at the same time, and I love the Misfits name as well. It’s unique and it definitely stands out.

For now, let’s get back to the Wake Up Your Skin Face Wipes!
Colour and Texture
The wipes are white and have a typical wipe, wet cloth, texture. They are fairly thick, durable and stretchy to an extent.
They feel soft on the skin and do not break into pieces while using them. Cloth-wise, they are much sturdier and better quality than a lot of make up wipes out there.
These wipes smell absolutely gorgeous. They have a refreshing cucumber with a hint of chamomile smell and it is incredibly refreshing. It is nicely balanced, soft but yet strong enough to wake you up a little.
I would have never thought that cucumber meets chamomile would be so pleasant, but it really is. It’s also a fairly “feminine” type of scent which I love as it makes you want to use them and feel feminine after. In a nutshell, the smell reminds me of fabric softener type of scents. Sweet and feminine, but not overpowering, and yet still refreshing.
One pack of 25 wipes retails for £1 on the brand’s website at the moment! Unless, you buy 20 packs for £15 which makes them £0.75 each! It’s a total steal!
The packaging has the standard makeup wipes shape and is made of plastic. However, it is fairly thick, waterproof and durable and will easily survive travelling. The pack is resealable and the wipes are kept moist for a long time.
In terms of looks, the pack is fairly simple but it definitely stands out. I love the black and green contrast, it works well for the cucumber scent. This product definitely looks the part.
Practicality of use – user experience
The Wake Up Wipes are very easy to use. Just like any other wipe, all you need to do is take one out of the pack and use on the face where needed. Once you are done, dispose the wipes and that’s it! No need to rinse.
The pack is easily resealable and very durable. I’ve been throwing it around my handbag while travelling and not only did the wipes stay moist throughout but the packaging looked like new, with minimal creasing.
The brand doesn’t specify a specific skin type but the fact that they are artificial fragrance free and contain minimal ingredients points to the fact that they would likely be suitable for most.
If you have sensitive skin or are concerned try one at the back of your hand or consult a medical doctor.
Here’s what the brand has to say about these wipes:
“Wake Up Wipes contain powerful deep penetrating caffeine and cucumber that wake up your skin and face to stop you looking tired or sleepy.
Perfect to help anyone who suffers from:
* Tired eyes and dark circles.
* Morning face where you struggle to look away.
* Puffiness around your eyes or your face.
* Red or blotchy face, especially when tired.
Combining hugely powerful cucumber extract and caffeine, these super gentle wipes when used on your face can help to make you look wide awake, fresh and ready to face the day. ”
These wipes last for 24M which is much longer than a lot of other wipes out there which tend to last around 6M.
I honestly absolutely loved these. They are very practical and easy to use, the thicker packaging and thick wipe cloth makes them very durable and the simple but efficient formulation makes me a happy chemist.
They take out makeup well, they leave the skin feeling hydrated, soothed and awake, they smell absolutely gorgeous and they have beneficial for your skin ingredients. What more can you want? Aw yes, they are also £1 per pack…
I’ve already put in my order for 20 and I am actually considering ditching my old favourite Nivea Dry Skin 3 in 1 Gentle Cleansing Wipes which I awarded the Bonds of Beauty Best Cleansing Wipes 2017 award. Not only do the Wake Up Wipes work as well but they actually contain better ingredients and are free of ingredients that some prefer to avoid, like parabens and fragrance, which the Nivea ones contain.
Not convinced? Here’s a video demonstration of the Wake Up Wipes against and a standard eye liner and foundation.
The Wake Up Wipes contain only 10 ingredients which might sound reasonable at first, it’s just wipes after all, but if you compare them to other wipes in the market they are on the “low ingredient” ballpark.
However, that’s not a bad thing at all. These wipes are formulated effectively to contain only what is truly needed. This is very obvious after usage as they can take off makeup and dirt, clean your face and wake you up effectively.
Overall, I must admit I was very impressed and the chemist in me was very, very pleased. The brand not only has included good for your skin ingredients in a product that doesn’t particularly need to be nutritional, but it also tells you, in the ingredient list, how much of each ingredient there is. What can I say, as a chemist, I am in love.
- Aqua – Water based formulation. These wipes are 96.15% water.
- Propylene Glycol – A humectant (=can lock in moisture) and skin conditioner.
- Phenylglycol – A preservative (=disinfectant) and stabiliser. It can also be used as a fragrance additive and as an insect repellent. Solvent.
- Glycerin – Found naturally in the skin so can be seen as a skin replenishing ingredient. A skin conditioner that helps improve and smooth the appearance of skin. A good moisturiser that is almost always present in moisturising products.
- Dexpanthenol – A form of vitamin B5. A skin conditioner, humectant, emollient and moisturiser.
- Chamomile Extract – An anti-oxidant and skin soother. A penetration enhancer and fragrance.
- Apricot Kernel Oil – A fragrance, conditioner and moisturiser. It can temporarily smooth blemishes, wrinkles, fine lines and other symptoms of mature skin. It can also facilitate faster healing.
- Caffeine – A potent anti-oxidant, skin conditioner, that can wake up the skin and improve the appearance of puffy eyes. It can sooth and penetrate the skin and reduce redness. It slows down the process of photo-ageing.
- Cucumber Fruit Extract – A skin conditioner and emollient. Has anti-oxidant properties and is composed of 95% water. The rest of the constituents primarily include ascorbic acid (vitamin C), caffeic acid (an antioxidant), fatty acids, the mineral silica, plus other trace minerals.
- Tocopheryl Acetate – A more stable form of vitamin E. A hero anti-oxidant molecule. A skin conditioner that also enhances the ability of sunscreens. Can help with inflammation. Check out: Vitamins C & E – Do they work in skin care?
Ingredients that can cause irritation to some:
This is actually really case specific, as different people have different sensitivities and allergies. Just because a compound has been reported by some to cause sensitivity, it doesn’t mean you will have an issue. “Sensitizer” compounds being present is not a negative in my opinion, as this is the case with pretty much everything out there and funnily enough I’ve seen products that are targeted specifically for sensitive skin, containing some compounds that have been reported by some, or are known to be, sensitizers.
If you have sensitive skin or you are prone to skin sensitisation and unwanted reactions, try a little bit of this at the back of your hand first and consult a medical doctor if you are concerned.
With that being said, the following compounds present in these wipes have been either proven or claimed by some to be sensitizers, irritants, allergens etc: Propylene Glycol, Phenylglycol, Chamomile Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate.
Full list of ingredients:
Aqua 96.15%, Propylene Glycol 1.75%, Phenylglycol 0.60%, Glycerin 0.5%, Dexpanthenol 0.40%, Chamomile Extract 0.20%, Apricot Kernel Oil 0.10%, Caffeine 0.10%, Cucumber Fruit Extract 0.10%, Tocopheryl Acetate (VE) 0.10%.
I absolutely loved these wipes. They work well, smell gorgeous, are durable and super affordable. Their formulation is simple but effective and the ingredients contained are actually nutritious for the skin. They might not be the makeup wipes you’d go for a heavy face full of waterproof makeup but they are definitely the ones that will wake you up in the morning or will take away moderate amounts of makeup and any left over dirt. I highly recommend them.
I’d like to thank Misfit Cosmetics for sending me a free pack of wipes to review.
