Another month, another opportunity to unbox some beauty boxes! As always the Look Fantastic box was the first to arrive and its very exciting as Look Fantastic has been getting better in 2018.
The theme this month was “a beauty regime fit for the summer season” and it fits the July month nicely. Even the box had a nice golden with black colour theme which would actually make a great storage box for bronzers!
This beauty box always comes with a quote under the lid and this month it said: “Komorebi [Ko-Mor-Ebi] – Sunlight filtering through the trees, the interplay between light and leaves”. I love that I learnt a new word, who knew there was such a specific word for this and it even fits the summer theme. Win-win!
The Look Fantastic box also always comes with a small monthly Beauty Magazine that has a little more information about the products contained and some other featured products, and a travel size, but full edition, of the ELLE magazine. This beauty box is such an amazing value for money. To subscribe to Look Fantastic and get £5 off your first box click here.
This month’s box contained 6 products of which 5 were travel size and 1 was full size. From left to right as seen in the picture below, the products were: a hydrating face oil, a two face cleansers, a highlighter, a hair shampoo and a tan enhancer.
Let’s have a look at the products in more detail. These are short reviews that cover first impressions and experiences from using the products. For full reviews, including ingredient analysis and if I would recommend a product or not, check out: Bonds of Beauty (all articles here). Bear in mind that these are my personal opinions and that beauty is a very personal thing, we all have different skin, requirements and biological build which can influence things. What worked for me might not work for you and vice versa, please leave your comments below!
Lancer Omega Hydrating Oil
This oil has a lot of nice ingredients that will nourish and moisturise your skin. It can be used on it’s own or in combination with your daily moisturiser to add little boost.
The oil came with it’s outer packaging which is great. It has the typical Lancer design and colouring but most importantly it has the ingredient list.
The oil came in a cute little bottle which is made of glass and has a dropper. It doesn’t have a special design but it looks like a face oil product. I am surprised that the glass is clear as ingredients like these can be light sensitive and often come in darker bottles which prevent the light from destroying them. This doesn’t mean that this oil is bad, it might be that the ingredients in this one are not light sensitive, I didn’t look at them in detail.
The yellow colour of the oil is natural, the product does not contain any colourants. The oil doesn’t smell of anything other than the typical oil scent but it is very, very subtle and you won’t smell it unless you smell your skin.
The oil texture is not very thick, it’s a more watery type of oil. It is absorbed by the skin quickly, but it is an oil and it does leave a slight oily feeling behind. It’s not sticky but if you have oily skin it might not be the best choice for you.
This oil lasts for 12M and contains fatty acids, anti-oxidants polyphenols and more skin goodies. SCORE = 9/10
First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser
There is something about the name “First Aid Beauty” that I like so much, that gets me excited when I receive their products.
This wet face cleanser comes in a plastic tube with the typical First Aid Beauty branding. I personally don’t find it particularly beautiful or attrative but it’s not ugly either.
The cleanser is a while silky gel which spreads easily across the face and removes even a full face of makeup in a few cleaning cycles. It works well, doesn’t leave any residues behind and doesn’t dry out the skin. It doesn’t really smell of anything.
It even contains some nice ingredients, although it is debatable how useful they are since this is a rinse off product.
This cleanser is safe for sensitive skin, is fragrance free and lasts 12M. SCORE = 9/10
SVR Laboratories Sebiaclear Gel Moussani Cleanser
Having two (or more) products of the same type in the same beauty box can be dissaponting, but two wet face cleansers is acceptable since they get used up so quickly!
This wet face cleanser is a colourless gel that has a fresh lemon-like scent. It works well, removes makeup with a few cleaning cycles and doesn’t leave any residues behind or dry out the skin.
The ingredients are a lot more standard and less interesting than the First Aid Beauty cleanser above, but that might not be a bad thing since they are both rinse off products and all a cleanser should really do is…clean.
The cleanser comes in a plastic tube of standard quality with a very clinical looking branding.
The bad thing about having two products of the same type in the same box, is that you can’t help but compare them, which I’m sure it’s not something those brands would be happy for. Bad points for Look Fantastic there.
The First Aid Beauty cleanser is superior not only in how the skin feels after it’s cleansed but also in the fact that it doesn’t contain fragrance and would therefore, be potentially less irritating and suitable for more people. SCORE = 7/10
Doucce Freematic Hihglighter Mono in Colour Sparked Ray
I love the Doucce Freematic palettes because they are so adjustable. You can buy single blushes, highlighters and eye shadows and create your own palette (the trays are magnetic). I have quite a few colours around and create a palette depending on the occasion or place I’m travelling to. It’s so useful! If you want to see a Freematic palette check out the Cohorted Doucce box. I love that Look Fantastic includes some Freematic highlighters and shadows from time to time.
This highlighter is very beautiful and has a light golden-skin tone colour.
It reflects light nicely but is on the more natural side. You won’t blind any planes with this one.
This highlighter which came in it’s outer packaging lasts for 24M. SCORE = 8/10
Kerastase Reflection Bain Chromatique Shampoo
This travel size product is a multi-protecting shampoo for colour-treated or highlighter hair. I personally don’t have any of that and this is a good example of why Look Fantastic can fall short sometimes, due to the lack of a personalised beauty profile, which means that you will sometimes receive products that are not suitable for you.
Nevertheless, it doesn’t mean that you couldn’t use this shampoo if you are travelling and don’t have better options. It comes in a small hot pink, very durable, plastic bottle and carries the typical Kerastase branding.
The shampoo is a white cream that has a cosmetic shampoo type of smell which is very pleasant and very feminine. It washes the hair well but I wish it came with it’s conditioner too.
If you are avoiding certain ingredients, this shampoo contains SLS and fragrance type ingredients which are known skin sensitisers. These are common for a lot of shampoos though and they are not a strong reason to avoid this one specifically. It also contains vitamin E and some oils and extracts.
Since I don’t have coloured hair I wouldn’t be able to judge whether it protects the hair’s colour intensity but it smells and feels good. SCORE = 7/10
Filorga UV Bronze After Sun
This product is an after sun cream that will also help enhance your tan. It comes in a golden looking plastic tube of standard quality. It looks like a bronzer or tan relating product which is great.
I couldn’t try this product though as I am not on a holiday getting a tan and there is nothing to enhance at the moment! As a result, I cannot tell you whether this product works or not, or even how it smells like as I wanted to keep the seal intact to potentially use the product later.
What I can tell you though is that it contains a huge list of ingredients, including some skin nourishing ones. It lasts for 9M which is a rare amount of time (products usually last for 3M, 6M, 12M, 24M). It looks like a promising product but since I haven’t tried it I can’t score it.
Overall, this month’s box wasn’t as exciting as last months but it was good nevertheless. I loved the box colours and the theme but even though some of the products fit it, some also didn’t. I am starting to wonder whethere there is a point to the beauty box themes since noone since to be following them strictly anymore!
Initial box score, in terms of products and first feelings = 8/10
Overall box score after product testing (average of product scores) = 8/10
Star product = First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser
