Beauty Product Discovery – The MLB Box September 2018 – Unboxing and Product Reviews

The MLB Box was the last beauty box to arrive this month too. It’s usually worth the wait though as the products included have always been, so far, full size and from known brands.

Unfortunately, this month was a bit of a disappointment. The box arrived in the last week of the month (and it was very late last month), the products contained were not as exciting and it was even less products than the months before. This was the worst MLB Box to date for me and that’s a testament of the high standards this box has set because in any other box, these contents would be lovely.

As always, the MLB Box came in its standard branded black box. It also came with a beauty card which contains a little bit of information about each product and a little extra card that describes the extra products.

This month’s MLB Box contained 6 products of which 5 were beauty products and 1 was a sweet treat. Three out of 5 beauty products were full size, one travel/sample size and the sweet treat was full size too. All of this might sound absolutely great however, this beauty box started from including 9 full size beauty products down to 4 this month. This decrease has been gradual with every box but still, it already feels like this box is not going to be the amazing box it tried to be at the beginning, but rather another standard beauty box. I still have hopes for this box so we shall see!

The box promises to contain a minimum of 4 full size products and a wax melt or candle as “the scent of the month”. With that in mind, the box hasn’t delivered on neither the first or second part. There were only 3 full size beauty products and it’s been a couple of months since they included a wax melt or candle which I personally missed. I am not a fan of the sweet treat, I don’t need the temptation, and I think that the wax melt or candle would make this box more unique.

Let’s have a look at the products in more detail. These are short reviews that cover first impressions and experiences from using the products. Elizabeth Arden Highlighter Stick in Colour First Mate 01

Can’t complain with a full size Elizabeth Arden, even if personally, I am not a fan of highlighter sticks as I find them to feel sticky throughout the day.

Nevertheless, this highlighter stick looks gorgeous. I love the packaging, even if it’s plastic, I love the colours. It looks and feels expensive and in general it looks exciting to use.

The actual highlighter however, was a little disappointing. The glitter in it is fairly chunky and doesn’t look very natural or even on the skin. It feels a little hard when applied, probably because of the “large” glitter pieces but at least it doesn’t feel as sticky (almost none at all) as other stick highlighters. Rubbing it in or even dubbing it to make it more even and natural doesn’t help, it actually comes off if you dub/rub it 1-2 times.

On the plus side, it has a subtle sweet powder scent and it lasts for an amazing 36M. The colour is also a very beautiful golden-rose which sadly, might not suit all skin tones, it definitely looks too pink on my super pale complexion. This is a full size highlighter which retails for £28. SCORE = 6/10

Dolce & Cabbana “Dolce” Perfumed Shower Gel

Well I don’t know about you but I definitely never owned a Dolce & Cabbana shower gel. Felling a little fancy right now!

The plastic bottle looks very simple and I can’t really make up my mind on whether I like it or not. It sometimes looks simple and elegant and other times a bit boring and cheap. What do you think?

The clear gel has a strong perfume type of scent which is pleasant but definitely not what you would want to shower with every day. Perhaps this can be a “special day” shower gel?

It cleanses well and doesn’t leave any sticky residues behind.

It is debatable whether this is a full size product, as this shower gel also comes in a 200mL version, making this 100mL one likely the travel/smaller size option. This size retails for £16 and lasts for 12M. SCORE = 7/10

Elizabeth Arden Pro Revitalizing Body Lotion

Well two Elizabeth Arden products in one beauty box definitely isn’t a bad thing!

This body lotion came with its original outer packaging which is great. It looks expensive and feels nice on the skin. It has a white cream consistency which smells only faintly of an off-cream (not the most pleasant smell) and spreads easily. The skin feels hydrated but a little sticky when it moves and it takes a while for all of the product to be fully absorbed.

At the back of the product it says that “a mild tingling sensation is normal”, which thankfully I didn’t get, but it makes me wonder why this would be normal/acceptable. Usually, any kind of sensation, especially tingling (arguably even coldness) could mean irritation and damage to the skin.

At least the product contains some interesting ingredients including AHA and BHA, grapefruit extract and even retinyl palmitate.

This is a full size (120mL) body lotion which lasts for 24M and retails for £28. SCORE = 8/10

Wispease “Gaze” Eye-Lashes

I love that the box included eye lashes, it’s an item that beauty boxes don’t include very often which makes me wonder why, as they are in general, a cheap item.

These lashes came in a plastic, round box which I actually really like. It’s reusable, for any lashes not just these ones and you could even store powder or some other product inside it.

The lashes are 100% silk and cruelty free. They look gorgeous and very fluffy and are re-usable up to 25 times if you take good care of them.

This is a full size product which retails for £12.99. SCORE = 8/10

Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Colour Lash Enhancing Mascara in 01 Black

This is the size and type of mascara product you get for free from the brand’s counter but that’s ok, this is meant to be the extra beauty product.

What is not ok is the fact that this mascara was dry and it actually looks used up. There is mascara dried up around the rim of the product, which looks exactly how it would if someone used it. However, even if it’s just from the product drying out this means that this is a very old sample, explains the general dryness of it as well, which doesn’t make it any better!

Sadly, this product went straight to the bin and so since I couldn’t properly try it and test it, I can’t really judge it. MLB Box though, I’m not happy!

Waf*fulls Strawberry

This is a soft waffle sandwich with a strawberry fruit filling which will set you back 187kcals and 20.2g of sugar for only 2.2g of protein. Not my kind of product but also not within the scope of this post.

Overall, this month’s box was a strange one. You can’t really complain with three Elizabeth Arden and a Dolce & Cabbana product but I have to say my first impressions were bad. This month’s box just didn’t excite me! The decline of the number of beauty products and the disappearance of the wax melt or candle of the month bit has made this month’s box, easily, the worst of MLB so far. Not to mention that I couldn’t use one of the products and so I just threw it away. Let’s hope it’s a one-off snooze. Can we please go back to the wax melts or candles?

Initial box score, in terms of products and first feelings = 6/10

Overall box score after product testing (a sum of product scores) = 7.3/10

Star product = Elizabeth Arden Pro Revitalizing Body Lotion
