Beauty boxes are not just the subscription kind. Some beauty companies create beauty boxes as little product bundles that you can buy and Estée Lauder is one of those brands that has been doing this consistently for a while. Like subscription beauty boxes, these types of boxes give you the opportunity to try out different products at a good price but unlike beauty boxes, their content is not a surprise. You can decide beforehand, if there is a good chance you will use most of those products or not and if the box is interesting for you.
One of the current Estée Lauder beauty boxes is the “Little Box. Big Day” which is meant to be a box for your big day and it contains 8 beauty products from different Estée Lauder owned companies. It’s not exactly wedding day specific but the white and golden design of the box sort of implies that. However, there is no reason to buy this box on your wedding day specifically, you can treat yourself whenever, for whatever occasion or even without an occasion. In fact, I would advise not getting a box or a gift like this for your wedding day or any other special day, you should only wear products that you’ve tested during those times! It’s a great gift though regardless and at a very good and affordable price.
Let’s have a look at the products contained. These are short reviews that cover first impressions and experiences from using the products. For full reviews, including ingredient analysis and if I would recommend a product or not, check out: Beauty In-depth Reviews & Ingredient Analysis (all articles here). Bear in mind that these are my personal opinions and that beauty is a very personal thing, we all have different skin, requirements and biological build which can influence things. Estée Lauder Beautiful Belle, Eau de Parfum
This travel size perfume bottle is beautiful regardless it’s size. It is actually a mini version of the full size bottle design which makes it even more cute.
It has a sweet scent with pale floral hints and can be worn both at day and night. It’s not a heavy scent and it will suit many occasions and styles. It is actually a blend of Lychee, Mimosa, Rose Petals, Orange Flower, Gardenia and Marzipan Musk.
This product contains 4mL which is worth £6.93.
Clinique Moisture Surge Intense Skin Fortifying Hydrator
This is a rich cream-gel which hydrates the skin. Clinique labels this cream for very dry to dry skin and although its deep moisturisation properties will appeal to those skin types, its oil free and its half cream half gel texture is perfect for combination and oily skin too.
It is fragrance free and even contains many nourishing ingredients such as olive fruit extract, caffeine, whey protein, cholesterol, sodium hyaluronate, vitamin E and a peptide. It’s not a cream I would use on a daily basis because it’s not as nourishing as it could be but it is great for those times when you need some urgent deeper moisturisation, perhaps once or twice a week or after travelling.
This 15mL jar is worth £10.8 and lasts for 24M.
MAC Satin Lipstick in Twig
MAC lipsticks are truly one of the best, even if they are not specifically moisturising. They feel buttery and although they do not moisturise the lip skin, they do not feel drying either. Their colour transfers when you eat or drink but it doesn’t leave the lips completely naked, it just fades (although this depends on how you eat!).
The colour twig is a very wearable every day pinky-brown red with a satin finish, for those days when you want some colour on your lips but not feeling too daring. It’s a must have colour.
This 3g lipstick bullet is a full size and retails for £17.50.
Bobbi Brown Long Wear Cream Shadow Stick in Golden Pink
Wow, wow, wow. This is a gorgeous golden colour stick which can be used even as a highlighter if you feel like blinding planes. It looks gorgeous on the eyes and works even as an inner corner eye highlighter.
It comes in a plastic stick that doesn’t need sharpening as it comes out by twisting. It’s easy to use and beautiful, what more could one want. It even won the Best Eye Shadow Award at Women’s Health Beauty Awards, September 2015.
This 0.9g stick is worth £13.22.
Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara
This mascara is meant to be the perfect complement to a smokey eye look but I would disagree. It works really well, and it creates long thin lashes but it does nothing for thickness. This type of mascara is excellent for more natural or work looks but not for intense eyes. It depends on the look of course but intense eyes usually go nicer with thicker lashes.
You do need a thinner longer lash mascara in your kit too however, and this one could be the perfect no makeup-makeup mascara. It doesn’t leave any black bits and the hairs do not clump together. It has a hair type wand which works really well and has the perfect size (neither too thick or too thin).
This travel size 3mL mascara lasts for 6M and is worth £12.50.
Darphin 8-Flower Nectar Oil Cream
This is a thick, yellow cream that feels a little oily on the skin. It is made of 8-flower oils and as expected, it has a floral scent.
It feels really lovely and I can imagine that it is nutritional for the skin too. However, if you are the oily skin type you might not tolerate its oily texture very much! Worry not though because you can still use it, perhaps on drier or more delicate areas like under the eyes or on very dry parts.
This 5mL tub lasts for 24M and is worth £11.60.
Smashbox Photo Finish Smooth & Blur Primer
This primer is meant to be a clear gel that smoothes and blurs the skin. It was developed to help makeup last longer and look better when photographed.
The one I received was a clear watery liquid that did blur the skin but was a little annoying to handle because of how fluid it is. On the other hand, its fluidity means that you can easily mix it with a foundation to make harsher foundations a little smoother.
This is not a nourishing primer but it still contains vitamins A & E, grape seed extract and green tea. It is also oil free.
This 12mL tube is worth £10.4 and lasts for 24M.
Glamglow THIRSTYMUD Hydrating Mask Treatment
This is a hydrating treatment that you are meant to apply on clean skin, 2-3 times a week. You leave it on for 20-30 minutes and then wipe off any excess left behind.
It smells sweetly cosmetic with a dash of a slightly fruity scent too and it looks like a pale brown cream. It gets absorbed quickly and it truly leaves the skin moisturised and soft. It also leaves a slightly oily feeling behind though so if you have oily skin, don’t use this before makeup, only at night before bed.
It contains some nourishing ingredients too but don’t rely on it for nourishment, use it as an addon in your skincare regime.
This travel size 15g tube is worth £12.60 and lasts for 24M.
This beauty box is worth the cash. For £28 you will get 8 high-end products worth trying, with a potential worth of £73.95. Next time you want to purchase a lipstick get this box instead. Considering the MAC lipstick in colour Twig is a must-have and it costs £17.50 on its own, add another £10.5 and get this box as a treat.
Once you are done and finished all the products, you can even use the box for decoration or as an organisation insert inside your drawers.
I highly recommend this beauty box.
