Glossybox has been redesigning their pink iconic box to a slightly smaller size and this month it was the first time to receive the newer-smaller one. However, unless I’ve told you this you wouldn’t really have known as the box I received this month was only slightly smaller, not even half a centimetre, a difference that was not obvious to me until I literally put the old and new boxes on top of each other. I do wonder though if this is actually the new size they were talking about because I have received Glossybox boxes before that varied slightly in size. We shall see!
This month’s theme was “Summer Soirée” and it was about beauty treats that you will need to get ready for your special occasions, given that many weddings, parties etc tend to happen over the summer months.
This month’s box contained 5 products as always, of which all 5 were full size, something that Glossybox does often and it’s great! Glossybox also comes with a little leaflet that gives a little more information about each product as well as a sneak peak for next month! A bit of a spoiler so it’s annoying sometimes but at other times it’s nice to look forward to something, especially if it’s a specific product you wanted to try or buy.
Let’s have a look at the products in more detail. These are short reviews that cover first impressions and experiences from using the products. For full reviews, including ingredient analysis and if I would recommend a product or not, check out: Beauty In-depth Reviews & Ingredient Analysis (all articles here). Bear in mind that these are my personal opinions and that beauty is a very personal thing, we all have different skin, requirements and biological build which can influence things. What worked for me might not work for you and vice versa, please leave your comments below.
Avant Pro Perfecting Collagen Touche Éclat Primer
Avant has some good products in their range but admittedly, when I read the ingredients for this one I was a little shocked. What a ridiculous price, £85, for a 13 ingredient primer.
Don’t get me wrong, this primer is pleasant to use and it works well under makeup and if it was maybe £20 or less, it would have been worth considering and testing further.
But if you are looking for a makeup primer that is also nourishing to the skin, look no further than the This Works Camera Mask, Moisturiser & Primer that is suitable for all skin types, even the oily ones like me!
This 30mL tube lasts for 12M and is at least cruelty free. The product is also paraben free but also free from many other ingredients! SCORE = 6/10
Hask Unwined Deep Hair Conditioner
This is a hair mask you are supposed to use after shampooing and leave on for 5 minutes. Now that’s a hair mask I can actually do without getting bored! It is gentle enough to use 1-2 times per week, it contains some interesting ingredients and it is pleasant to use.
I can’t say that I noticed any difference to my hair but then again I only used this product once, since it is a one-off satchel. Also, my hair is not colour treated so I wasn’t using this product to its full potential.
This product is sulfate, paraben, phthalate, gluten, alcohol and artificial colour free. It is also not tested on animals. A 50g one-off satchel retails for £3.99. SCORE = 6/10
Modelco Lip Créme Matte
This lip créme is essentially a liquid lipstick that dries completely within a few minutes and doesn’t transfer.
It is very easy to apply and although it feels very lightweight, you can easily forget you are wearing it, it also felt slightly drying on the lips. Nothing major though, this is very common for liquid lipsticks, even the most moisturising ones can feel slightly drying when they dry and form a film over the lip skin.
Unfortunately, the lipstick didn’t last very long and started coming off from the corners and inner lips even from just talking. It broke down even more with time and when drinking and eating. Especially when drinking coffee (milk can be very effective at destroying liquid lipsticks). The experience was ok but I was disappointed about how quickly it fell apart, before even drinking anything.
This 4mL liquid lipstick is a full size and retails for £15. SCORE = 5/10
Sleek Makeup Face Form Contouring & Blush Palette in Light
This palette looks and feels much more expensive than it is and that’s great.
There is a huge mirror inside and it contains contour, highlighter and blush. All look beautiful and work well and blend easily. I’m so glad that I actually got the palette in the colour light, which suits my skin tone.
This palette works well and the £9.99 price is very attractive indeed. I can’t say that the highlighter specifically, is the best ever, but for the price this cute palette is good.
This full size palette contains 20g of product and lasts for 24M. SCORE = 8/10
Meech N Mia Eyeshadow Chubby Stix
This eyeshadow stick has a very beautiful golden colour that could be used at the centre of the lid or even as a highlighter on the eyes and cheeks. If only it worked though!
This product worked when I swatched it on my hand but it didn’t write very well, almost nothing at all, on the eyes and it felt very harsh. I even tried to swatch it on my hand for a bit to soften it up and get the initial layer off but it still didn’t feel any softer and didn’t write on the eyes.
I don’t need to try this product further to tell you that I do not recommend this product.
This 2.2g stick is a full size that lasts for 18M and retails for £12.99. A complete waste of money. SCORE = 2/10
Overall, this month’s Glossybox contained some interesting products to try, too bad most of them turned out to be a disappointment. But that’s not Glossybox’s fault, the point of a beauty box is to bring you products to try and see which ones work for you.
Initial box score, in terms of products and first feelings = 7/10
Overall box score after product testing (average of product scores) = 5.4/10
Star product = Sleek Makeup Face Form Contouring & Blush Palette in Light
