It’s Look Fantastic’s birthday! Happy birthday Look Fantastic!
This month’s beauty box came with a birthday edit theme and a gorgeous, white, green and gold coloured box. I love beauty box birthday edits because it’s a great opportunity for the beauty box to celebrate itself, its achievements but also its subscribers.
Unfortunately though, while the theme and the box were great, the contents weren’t as exciting, which is something that is slowly becoming the norm for Look Fantastic and it’s not great.
This beauty box also comes with a quote under the lid and this month it said: “Live everyday like it’s your birthday”. Love the sentiment but I’m not sure I could afford that!
The Look Fantastic box also always comes with a small monthly Beauty Magazine that has a little more information about the products contained and some other featured products, and a travel size, but full edition, of the ELLE magazine. This beauty box is such an amazing value for money. To subscribe to Look Fantastic and get £5 off your first box click here.
This month’s box contained 6 products.
Let’s have a look at the products in more detail. These are short reviews that cover first impressions and experiences from using the products. For full reviews, including ingredient analysis and if I would recommend a product or not, check out: Beauty In-depth Reviews & Ingredient Analysis (all articles here). Bear in mind that these are my personal opinions and that beauty is a very personal thing, we all have different skin, requirements and biological build which can influence things. What worked for me might not work for you and vice versa, please leave your comments below.
OSKIA Renaissance Cleansing Gel
This cleanser is a pink gel that works well. It removes a full face of makeup but like with most cleansers, you might need to go over the skin twice. It doesn’t leave any residues behind and the skin is left feeling clean.
It has a lemony-off scent and it contains vitamins A, C, E as well as some other ingredient goodies. While that would be great in a leave on product, it’s a bit of a waste in a rinse off, as your skin likely won’t have enough time to absorb enough of them to be worth it.
This 35mL tube is a travel size which lasts for 9M and retails for £14. SCORE = 8/10
Molton Brown Orange & Bergamot Body Wash
This fancy shower gel has a floral scent which is awakening and revitalising. It cleans the skin well and doesn’t leave any residues behind.
At £10 for a 100mL, this shower gel is definitely more expensive than the average and although we should all treat ourselves more often than we do, the price is not really worth it for everyday use.
Ingredient-wise there are definitely some interesting ones together with some standard ones but overall, it doesn’t matter! This is a rinse off product which essentially means…it doesn’t matter how good or average the ingredients are (as long as they are not bad), they will mostly wash off and end up in your drain.
This shower gel lasts for 12M and will look gorgeous in your bathroom. SCORE = 7/10
Pixi Liplift Max Honey Sheen
I am not the biggest fan of glosses because I have long hair and they end up sticking on the gloss like a magnet. However, this gloss is beautiful, the apricot-gold colour is gorgeous and I can see the appeal.
It comes in a cute, durable plastic packaging, with a wand. It’s very easy to apply but like all glosses, it doesn’t last very long on the lips.
This 1g is a travel size gloss and lasts for 12M. The full size, 2.7g retails for £12, not too bad of a price! SCORE = 8/10
Caudalie Premier Cru the Eye Cream
I’m usually not a Caudalie fan because most products have a strong off-scent but this eye cream doesn’t smell of much.
The off-white cream applies easily and is absorbed quickly by the skin. It doesn’t leave any residues behind but it also doesn’t feel deeply moisturising. After applying this cream my skin felt neither moisturised or dry, as if I didn’t use anything.
It contains some good ingredients but is not especially impressive for the price tag. This cute little tube contains 5mL and lasts for 6M and retails for £16.35. SCORE = 6/10
Sleek Brow Stylist
I admit I don’t do much with my eyebrows, I’m lucky enough to have a lot of hairs and I don’t feel the need to shade them in. However, this Sleek pen is so easy to use that I would consider adding it to my makeup routine, if only it worked well. Unfortunately, the pen doesn’t write much unless you put a lot of force into it, which is not great for the eyebrow hairs or the skin. The pigment also gathers around pores and looks clotted.
On the plus side, I love the way the pen looks and feels, as always Sleek looks…sleek. The product comes out by twisting the pen, so no sharpening pencil mess, and it glides easily over the skin and hairs.
This 0.3g pen lasts for an amazing 36M and retails for an even better, £6.49. If only it worked. SCORE = 5/10
Bubble T Limited Edition Look Fantastic Birthday Bath Bomb
I love that Look Fantastic included this product, it fits nicely within the celebratory theme and it reminds me that I should have baths more often.
The bath bomb smells nice and looks cute but unfortunately, I haven’t had the time to try it out (more information as to what I’m up to in a coffee chat soon). Since I haven’t tried it, I can’t score it.
The idea was great though and I am looking forward to using it.
Overall, I really loved the Birthday theme but I thought that the products contained were not as exciting and celebratory as I would have hoped. This could have been Look Fantastic’s opportunity to include something special and I feel that the potential of the theme wasn’t captured.
Initial box score, in terms of products and first feelings = 6/10
Overall box score after product testing (average of product scores) = 6.8/10
Star product = OSKIA Renaissance Cleansing Gel
