Glossybox Beauty Box October 2019 – Unboxing and Product Reviews

Glossybox mostly comes in its iconic pink box but every now and again they do bigger themes with specially designed boxes. This month’s theme was “Angel or Devil” for Halloween and came in two different designed boxes, a blue one for the Angel and red for the Devil. Both boxes look absolutely gorgeous and contain very similar products.

I received the Angel box (it’s random) and beyond the fact that the design was beautiful the contents were interesting too.

The box contained 6 products 1 more than standard but the 6th one is not a beauty product. All products except the non-beauty one, were full size.

Let’s have a look at the products in more detail. These are short reviews that cover first impressions and experiences from using the products. For full reviews, including ingredient analysis and if I would recommend a product or not, check out: Beauty In-depth Reviews & Ingredient Analysis (all articles here). Bear in mind that these are my personal opinions and that beauty is a very personal thing, we all have different skin, requirements and biological build which can influence things. STYLONDON Velvet Touch Angel Eyeshadow Palette

It’s always super exciting to receive an eyeshadow palette in a beauty box, it just somehow makes it so much more exciting.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t too impressed with this one. It came with a little sticker that keeps it shut (like a seal) but it was obvious without even opening it that someone touched it or something went wrong during production. The top middle colour (pale pink) has its lined patterned disrupted, as if someone or something touched it and the bottom right (brown) has a damaged mark in it, typical for when one accidentally puts a nail through a powder product. I know because I’ve done it many times but of course it could be something else. Either way, something seems to have touched the shadows and it doesn’t give a very good feeling of quality control.

On the plus side, the colours are beautiful. There are 6 mattes and 3 shimmers. They work ok, especially if you use an eyeshadow primer. I wish there was also a darker colour for shading but I guess you could use this palette for more light-day looks.

This palette is full size (4.5g) and contains very standard ingredients. It lasts 12M and retails for £15. SCORE = 6/10

Lord & Berry Maximatte Lipstick Crayon in Angelic Pink

This lipstick works well and applies easily. It doesn’t feel moisturising but neither heavy or sticky. The colour is a little too light for my super pale self but can look gorgeous on appropriate skin tones.

The biggest downside of this product is the fact that it is a pencil that you have to sharpen, and we all know how well sharping cosmetics usually goes. It gets messy and you lose some product even if you try the best tricks, like putting them in the freezer first etc.

This 1.6g pencil is full size and lasts for 36M. It retails for £15 which is a little expensive considering that other lipsticks, like Urban Decay ones, retail around that price but contain a lot more product. SCORE = 7/10

Bubble T Cosmetics Angel Dust Foaming Bath Powder

I love that Glossybox created a product, just for this box, through a Bubble T collaboration. It’s really nice to see and makes the box feel more special and thought off.

I haven’t been able to try this product yet (who has time for baths these days) but I should soon enough. Don’t get your hopes too high though, the ingredients are very basic and the foaming is mostly from sodium bicarbonate, also known as baking soda.

Bubble T Cosmetics Angel Dust Foaming Bath Powder

This is a full size 90g product which lasts for 12M and retails for £4.99. I won’t score it since I haven’t tried it, but it feels expensive considering the ingredients contained.

MCoBeauty Eye Define Crayon Liner

This eyeliner arrived broken but after I cleaned it up, it worked ok on the eyes. It was soft enough to not feel harsh but hard enough to not break while writing. The colour was a semi-black, neither as black as a liquid liner but also neither as grey as some other “black pencils”.

The line lasted all day without smudging but it did fade in colour when I touched it. The ingredients are really basic but at least you don’t have to sharpen it.

The packaging is cute, it contains 0.3g of product which lasts for 6M. This is a full-size product which retails for £15. SCORE = 7/10

Que Bella Beauty Illuminating Holographic Peel Off Mask

You are supposed to put this beautiful looking mask on clean skin for 20 minutes and then peel off. It works well and looks gorgeous but it’s mostly a gimic.

Que Bella Beauty I lluminating Holographic Peel Off Mask

I didn’t think that my face was much cleaner than before and the ingredients contained are not particularly impressive, with the exception of hyaluronic acid and two extracts. It even contains alcohol denat. which a lot of people avoid as it is said to damage the skin.

As a result, while I thoroughly enjoyed the fairy-tale magical mask experience I can’t say that this is a skincare must have. This is a full-size one-time use mask which contains 10mL and retails for £2.49. It is suitable for vegans. SCORE = 6/10

Whittard of Chelsea Luxury White Hot Chocolate

While this 6th product is not a beauty one, it is very welcome. Who doesn’t love hot chocolate, even if it is not the traditional type.

Whittard of Chelsea Luxury White Hot Chocolate

I thoroughly enjoyed this hot chocolate but since it is not a beauty product and very much up to personal taste, I will not score it.

Glossybox October 2019 4

Overall, I really liked the angel/devil theme and the box designs were beautiful. The products contained were interesting to try but at the same time I wasn’t swept off my feet in excitement. I hope Glossybox is not losing the magical excitement factor because that’s what beauty boxes are all about.

Initial box score, in terms of products and first feelings = 7/10

Overall box score after product testing (average of product scores) = 6.5/10

Star product = MCoBeauty Eye Define Crayon Liner
