Cohorted Beauty Box January 2020 – Unboxing and Product Reviews

I cannot belive that the January 2020 beauty boxes are done already, how fast is time really! However, last but not least is the Cohorted beauty box which managed to steal my hear in 2019!

The Cohorted box was as always the standard black, square box that closes with a lid. The box also came with it’s monthly, small beauty magazine (about 30 pages) that tells you a little bit more about each product and some featured products or artists.

Cohorted January 2020 contained 6 full size products.

Let’s have a look at the products in more detail. These are short reviews that cover first impressions and experiences from using the products. For full reviews, including ingredient analysis and if I would recommend a product or not, check out: Beauty In-depth Reviews & Ingredient Analysis (all articles here). Bear in mind that these are my personal opinions and that beauty is a very personal thing, we all have different skin, requirements and biological build which can influence things. What worked for me might not work for you and vice versa, please leave your comments below

Sachajuan Hair Repair

This hair mask is heavily scented but it smells nice and comes in a cute bottle. The product itself is a white thick cream.

Sachajuan Hair Repair

You are meant to leave this on wet hair for 5-10 minutes and then rinse.

The ingredients are not bad but neither amazing, especially considering that most are found in small quantities, since are listed after the ingredient parfum. I’ve also didn’t notice any difference but I do have thick unrully hair.

This 100mL bottle lasts for 12M and retails for £12. SCORE = 6/10

Avant Skincare Pro Perfecting Primer

Avant has done such a good job in appearing in beauty boxed, I’m getting a little sick of it! Anyhow, I’ve never tried their primer so this was exciting to try.

Avant Skincare Pro Perfecting Primer

Unfortunately, this primer didn’t do anything for my makeup. It is watery and the ingredients contained are also very basic. The price of £85 for 30mL is outrageous, especially given the ingredients contained. At least it lasts for 12M and is cruelty free.

The biggest positive is if you have dry skin the watery texture might feel hydrating but that’s really no reason to pay that price tag. There are many other primers in the market with better ingredients and price tags, my ultimate favourite still being the This Works In Transit Camera Mask, Moisturiser & Primer. SCORE = 4/10

Show Beauty Premier Texturising Spray

I’ve tried the leave-in conditioner from this brand (check out Cohorted November 2019) and loved it so I was excited to try more products.

I love how luxurious this brand’s products look and feel, it just adds to the experience. They also feel heavy and well put together.

Show Beauty Premier Texturising Spray

This spray smells pleasant and is easy to use. The only drawback, which might actually not be a drawback, is that the pump doesn’t dispense a long spray but rather small little bursts. This might mean you can control the product better or if you are used to long bursts of spray it might annoy you. I’m still not sure which one it is for me.

Nevertheless, the spray adds volume and leaves the hair smelling nice. I was surprised that there isn’t an ingredient list on the product, this likely means that it comes with outter packaging which didn’t with this box.

This full size 225g spray retails for £30. SCORE = 8/10

Morphe Jaclyn Hill Eyeshadow Palette in Ring the Alarm

This is why Cohorted was my favourite box last year. It includes full size items, often eyeshadow palettes and they are often very reputable brands!

Morphe Jaclyn Hill Eyeshadow Palette in Ring the Alarm

This palette is one of four small, 10-colour palettes of Jacklyn Hill with Morphe and although the colours are beautiful, I was a little dissapointed. The shades are not work friendly for my line of work and it also doesn’t look like a complete palette, there are no bone colours for example or too many choses for blending or shading colours.

With all that being said, to my surprise, I still ended up creating a look I loved with this palette only. The shadows are very good quality, blend easily and are pigmented. There isn’t a lot of kickback and a lot of them feel buttery.

I know there was some drama around the quality of this product but the one I received in this box is very good, I assume that since it’s been a while, they fixed whatever the issue was.

This is a full size palette which lasts for 12M and retails for £15. SCORE = 8/10

Bybi Plumper Lip Balm

I must admit lip plumper products never worked for me, ever and sadly, this wasn’t an exception.

Bybi Plumper Lip Balm

This balm felt tingling and a little burning on the lips (which are not good reactions for your skin) but my lips were still the same size. The product was also hard to squeeze out of the tube as it is quite thick.

It was easy to apply on the lips and the peppermint gum-like scent was pleasant. Sadly though, I didn’t think that my dry lips were deeply moisturised and overall I can’t say that it is a product I will remember.

This 10mL balm is full size, lasts for 12M and retails for £9. It is also natural, vegan and cruelty free. SCORE = 6/10

OH K! Hydrating Gold Lip Mask

I like that the mask came in separate packaging inside the initial packaging. It’s a waste of course but I like that for once you don’t get to drench yourself or have to dip your fingers in to find the drenched mask.

OH K! Hydrating Gold Lip Mask

The material of the mask feels like a soft gel which actually falls apart very easily, I managed to take the edge off with my nail while trying to get it out of the packaging. Nevertheless, it actually stayed on the lips for a minute or two which is something that many other masks struggle with. You have to wear it “backwards” with the actual lip design being visible and the flat side being on your lips, otherwise it won’t stay on.

There isn’t a lot of product on it and it looks and feels like a gimmick. The ingredients are ok but you don’t get much product. It slightly softened my lips but I was left dissapointed, this mask felt almost dry.

This is a full size mask which retails for £3.50. SCORE = 6/10

Cohorted January 2020 3

Overall, this was a strong box and I hope that Cohorted keeps it up this year too! It contained a nice balance of makeup to skincare to haircare and had something for everyone.

Initial box score, in terms of products and first feelings = 9/10

Overall box score after product testing (average of product scores) = 6.3/10

Box value = £154.50

Star product = Morphe Jaclyn Hill Eyeshadow Palette in Ring the Alarm
