Look Fantastic Beauty Box February 2020 – Unboxing and Product Reviews

February, the month of love, and a great opportunity to love yourself, to love others and to use some exciting skincare and makeup!

I’m always extra excited to see what the February beauty boxes will contain but unfortunately, Look Fantastic missed the spot. Althought the products contained would have been a perfectly fine box for any other month, they could have created a much more interesting box for the month of love.

The theme this month was Amour and the quote under the lid of the box said: “Amour – A love affair or lover, especially one that is secret”.

The Look Fantastic box also always comes with a small monthly Beauty Magazine that has a little more information about the products contained. In previous years it also used to contain the ELLE magazine but it doesn’t anymore! I personally don’t mind that much, I was never that into the magazine but it does decrease the value of the box.

This month’s box contained 6 products.

Let’s have a look at the products in more detail. These are short reviews that cover first impressions and experiences from using the products. For full reviews, including ingredient analysis and if I would recommend a product or not, check out: Beauty In-depth Reviews & Ingredient Analysis (all articles here). Bear in mind that these are my personal opinions and that beauty is a very personal thing, we all have different skin, requirements and biological build which can influence things. Espa Detoxifying Body Oil

This oil comes in a cute bottle with a normal free-flow opening. It has a strong citrus scent and a dry oil feel. It gets absorbed by the skin quickly and doesn’t feel as oily or sticky as other oils.

Espa Detoxifying Body Oil

The ingredients are good and the scent comes naturally from the oils contained. Can be used as a mess-free massage oil or a booster to your moisturiser.

This 15mL bottle is a travel size worth £5 and lasts 18M. SCORE = 9/10

Brushworks HD Wonder Complexion Sponge

This sponge is an almost identical version to the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion sponge. Not sure which came when but the Brushworks one feels a little more dense (so less bouncy) and has a smaller flat surface.

Brushworks HD Wonder Complexion Sponge

It works well but initially has a plasticky scent. Might be worth washing it before use.

This is a full size sponge which retails for £5.49 (£0.50 less than the Real Techniques one) and aparently lasts for 12M! SCORE = 8/10

Illamasqua Mini Antimatter Lipstick in Bang

I love this lipstick, I’ve been using a full size one for a while now and it’s great. The colour Bang is a perfect pinky brown nude and the pigmentation lasts for a while.

Illamasqua Mini Antimatter Lipstick in Bang

The one shown here is a mini (2g vs 4.15g) which I was actually quite excited about because it is perfect to travel with. I also love mini lipsticks because the bullet is thinner and so you can control the application better.

This is one of the few times that a mini product actually excites me! This lipstick lasts for 18M and retails for £10. SCORE = 8/10

Filorga Meso-Mask Smoothing Radiance

This face mask is meant to be applied on clean face, for 15-30 minutes and then removed with a damp cloth.

It left my skin soft and it contains some great ingredients, although probably in small amounts as they are listed after fragrance. Although the scent gives it a soft feminine feel good smell, it’s not best for skincare.

This 15mL is a travel size which lasts for 12M and retails for £12.60. SCORE = 7/10

Project Lip Mask

I have incredibly dry lips that flake multiple times a day and it’s the pain of my life! So this product was the first thing I reached for, from this beauty box, even though I’m not a fan of lip masks. They never stay on!

Project Lip Mask

You can put this on clean lips for 15-20 minutes without needing to rinse after. The mask itself is a thin sprakly white rubbery material that is soaked in a serum. It stays on longer than other masks, probably because it is thinner and so weighs less.

It left my lips soft, smooth and hydrated but has a strange bitter taste. This is a one-use mask which retails for £3.95. SCORE = 7/10

Naobay Gentle Face Toner

This toner contains some interesting ingredients but also some avoidable ones like fragrance and a lot of known sensitisers.

Naobay Gentle Face Toner

The bottle looks cute and it has a wooden exterior lid which is plastic inside.

The toner smells nice, a bit like a milky-perfume, but it comes from the fragrance contained. It leaves the skin feeling normal which is great.

This 125mL bottle is full size, retails for £12.50 and lasts for 12M. SCORE = 7/10

Look Fantastic Beauty Box February 2020 3

Overall, this box contained a lot of interesting products to try and a good mixture of full size vs smaller size products. However, given that February is the month of love, such a great opportunity for makeup, I can’t help but feel that this box missed a good opportunity to be extra special and exciting.

Initial box score, in terms of products and first feelings = 8/10

Overall box score after product testing (average of product scores) = 7.7/10

Box value = £49.54

Number of full size products = 3/6

Star product = Espa Detoxifying Body Oil
